German Engineering and Detail Design

A MA_WPM VI – Konstruktion und Technik

Course Content
This elective module offers students the opportunity to get an overview of latest building technology in a national context. Through two-day teaching blocks - combining lectures, workshops and research activities - students will gain knowledge and understanding of advanced building structures, construction methods and materials. The topics are directly related to examples of built projects, which will provide an up-to-date insight into structures, façade constructions and advanced building design.
To apply their knowledge, students will work on the materialization of a given design idea and its constructive implementation. In particular they will discuss and develop the structure, façade and typical details supported by complementary research on resource-preserving materials, products and sustainable construction methods.
The module also addresses the process of the planning phase in Germany referred to as “Design for Execution - Ausführungsplanung”, and will give an overview of building regulations, codes and documentation conventions related to this phase.

Course Objectives
During the course students develop the ability to translate an abstract spatial idea into implementable design documentation.
